In an announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Westchester Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins revealed his candidacy for the county's top position.

Jenkins' candidacy follows Latimer's victory in the race for New York's 16th Congressional District seat. Since Latimer will be heading to Congress, Jenkins said he believes he is ready to take on the job.

"As Deputy County Executive, I have been privileged to work on behalf of our communities, lowering property taxes, expanding affordable housing, and securing investments that make Westchester safer, healthier, and more equitable," Jenkins said, adding, "Westchester is a place of limitless potential, and I am ready to lead us forward with a vision rooted in opportunity, safety, and sustainability."

Jenkins's campaign will focus on issues such as keeping property taxes "under control"; expanding affordable housing; improving public transportation; protecting reproductive rights; and addressing climate change.

Latimer endorsed Jenkins after he announced his candidacy, calling him an "invaluable partner."

"His experience, integrity, and commitment to our county make him the ideal leader to take on the role of County Executive. Ken understands our residents’ needs and knows how to get things done," Latimer said.
